Happy Thursday! If you have been following me for a long time, you already know that I am a HUGE fan of embossing pastes and love working with them. It is so exciting to see when a company I love comes out with a new product I will get to use often – and Altenew just came out with their own embossing paste!
I made a clean and simple project featuring a technique where you use embossing paste and embossing powder together. Check out the video tutorial below for step-by-step instructions:
Mixing embossing paste and coloring mediums were always my go-to technique to do, but this was a nice change for me to play with embossing paste differently by using embossing powder.
When you add just a bit of texture on the background to work with your focal point, it really brings out the focus of the card nicely. On this card, I decided to highlight the washi taped die cut pieces using a brand new washi tape and it’s coordinating die set.
I love the fact that you can save so much time on cutting these washi tape images out using a die set. All you have to do is add washi tape to a cardstock, place dies on top, and run it through the machine!
These wide washi tapes are perfect to create multiple die cut elements, so you can save those for future projects or make multiple projects at one time.
Let’s talk about the embossing paste a bit. I love that this embossing paste comes in a big tub, which lasts through many many projects! It is bright white, lightweight, and is nicely whipped, making it very easy to apply.
Look how the raised, heat embossed background works nicely with the die cut washi tape pieces. It totally brings out the color of the flowers, don’t you think? I love how the gold power melted on top of the embossing paste, creating a wonderful metallic texture.
I strongly suggest utilizing products that make it easier for you to craft and create something beautiful to share. Enjoy experimenting with different mediums and have fun playing with them.

Lovely card, Nicole! I have never worked with embossing paste before, but after watching your video, I believe I will give it a try. The background you created gave texture and shimmer to the card. So beautiful!
Your card is fabulous. I can not wait to get my hands on these products and to try the embossed paste technique. Regarding your question about favorites…I cannot possibly pick a favorite washi tape and fully plan to purchase them all. They are all gorgeous.
[…] first stop on the hop is the super talented Nicole Picadura! Below is a complete list of the amazing designers/guests who are participating […]
Wow, Nicole, I simply love your inspiration. Teal and blooms, what not to like. I kept watching this combo. Altenew definitely has such inspiring designers! Thank you.
This is so beautiful created from that washi tape. Thanks for the tips on using embossing paste and embossing powder. I didn’t think you could heat set the paste, but obviously you can with care.
Really love the teal
This is so simple and so balanced. I love teal flowers!
Love the clean & simple card, it’s stunning!
It’s hard to make a choice between all of the release! I love the best outline tape which could be colored. Then there is the luscious green washi, which rekindled me of the hibiscus dies and you might be able to use the dies there to cut leaves: then the real tape, how pretty is that tape and it’s all set to use dies to make things easy! Then messy time with embossing paste, coloring it with ink, glitter mouse, it’s endless! Love it all especially your card! I just want to play !!!
What a beautiful piece of art!
Your card is lovely using the new products!
Love your card! New ideas!
I love the gold embossing on the paste. You get texture and shine in one technique. This is fabulous! I am learning so much on these blog hops.

To prevent the embossing paste from bubbling, you can give it some time to dry before melting the powder using the heat tool.
