Hello! We are going to play with some summer feel colors today and join the fun color challenge hosted by my favorite crafting store, Ellen Hutson. A few weeks ago I purchased a bunch of alcohol inks to try out and thought this challenge would be a perfect occasion to break them out.
Each month, Ellen Hutson hosts a challenge called Color Trend – It is a monthly inspirational challenge based on the Color Trend inspirational photo that is located on the CLASSroom blog. It is a great way to try out various color combinations and stretch your creativity!
For this month’s challenge, I was inspired by cool toned colors from the inspirational photo and decided to create an ocean background for my project. And, it was another great reason to pull out one of my recent favorites from Essentials by Ellen product line, the Mermaid’s Tail stamp set and die set!
To create the background, I added a few of blue toned alcohol inks and let them move around. You can directly blow on it, or use straws, or use a brush with pure alcohol to move them to different directions to create an interesting look. The colors I used for the background are Turquoise, Stonewashed, and Aqua. I also added the Silver Mixative to create some interest in the mix.
Creating the mermaid tail was so much fun. I decided to pull out the purple/pink color tones from the inspirational photo to make a nice mermaid tail with a beautiful ombre look. I used Purple Twilight, Cool Peri, and Pink Sherbet alcohol inks to create the base.
And you cant really take out a nice shine from the mermaid tail, can you? Do add the details of the tail, I stamped the image onto the purple/pink color background with Rose Gold embossing powder.
Rest of them is easy! Choose a sentiment you wish to use, heat set it with a white embossing powder on a black cardstock, and your card is all set!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card! I cannot wait for the summer to get here – this card totally brought me a summer fever.
