Hello there! Alcohol markers have been around in the crafting world for a long long time yet they are still well loved among many cardmakers and coloring enthusiasts. It is one of my favorite coloring mediums as well, and I love creating fun backgrounds with them.
The project I am going to share with you features an easy way to create a background with gradation or ombre look, with various shades of 1 color.
Altenew just came out with brand new Artist Markers – Set E, Primary Essential Set, Colorless Blender, along with some fun embellishments. I am focusing on the green color family from the Set E, Tropical Forest.
One of the things I love about Artist Markers is that they come in shades of 4, just like their inks, and you can mix and match these for different color variations. I wanted to create something holiday feel with lots of green, so I decided to go with these shades of green.
I had my mother-in-law when creating this card – her favorite color is green and she lives in Hawaii. So the Hawaiian Christmas greeting from the Peace on Earth Stamp Set was the perfect sentiment for this card.
To create the background, I started with the lightest color and moved section by section with each darker color. The top of the card is the lightest as you can see, and the bottom is the darkest green. I went back and forth with the shades in between to create more smooth and well-balanced gradation effect.
For some holiday feel finishing touches on the card, I added some sparkles on the colored background using a clear shimmer pen and added shimmers randomly throughout the background piece.
I also heat set the sentiment using the gold embossing powder on a black cardstock and backed the sentiment piece with metallic gold threads. Don’t you think this turned out pretty well? It was easy and quick to create as well.
