**GIVEAWAY** Easy Watercolor Background Wash + Intricate Die Cutting

August 9, 2018

Hello there! Today is an exciting day because we get to play with some long-anticipating product since Jan of this year! And it happens to be one of my favorite coloring mediums, watercolors. Let’s dive in!

Altenew is showcasing its brand-new Watercolor 36 Pan Set along with some great related products like Watercolor Brushes, Watercolor Palettes, and Watercolor Pan Case. These not only work great with the Watercolor 36 Pan Set but also works wonderfully with your other coloring mediums or water-based dye inks/sprays!

I decided to create a simple card featuring a gradient watercolor backgroundΒ using a couple of shades and add a touch of intricate dies to add details to the card.

You all know (well, if you are a frequent visitor to my blog) that blue is my favorite color and I often go for those various blue shades for projects. Today’s card is no different! I chose a bit of light green/teal color along with a light blue shade for the background.

All you have to do is pre-wet the watercolor paper with clean water and add layers of colors on top while adding some dry time in between. Then you get to have a soft, nicely blended watercolor wash that is oh-so-easy to create!

For added details, I chose the Leaf Frame Cover Die from last month’s release and cut it with a Pale Gray cardstock. I added some very thin foam tapes underneath it for added dimensions, but if you like you can also cut a few layers of these and stack them on top of each other.

The sentiment is best kept simple when creating a card with other intricate designs, especially if you want to show off the background peeking through. So Fine Alpha die set was the perfect choice to create a short but sweet sentiment for the card.

Share with me below, what are some of your favoriteΒ ways to use watercolor mediums on your projects?

This is beautiful and a skill that I have not mastered yet. My most favorite way to play with watercolor is to wet paper and start dropping colors, then sit back and watch it do its thing! I also love coloring in some lovely floral images with watercolor. I took a class at a local craft store once and we just painted shapes (circles/triangles) with water and added color, then cut them out. They make very interesting card elements. Thank you for another jump start. I plan to paint all day tomorrow!

I like creating washes and either using them for backgrounds like you did here or die cutting from them, like for florals or even sentiments. I love how you added the cover die. It looks like its hovering from the looks of the shadows! When you layer them you lose that effect. You got a much better result than I normally do. Must be those skinny Darice foam strips! Trying those soon for sure! Great card!!!

Im going to start working towards getting some routines where I can feel better and add creativity back to life. Why wait till Jan? We can start now πŸ’•

Happy Monday everyone- πŸ’•πŸ’• I was itching for a change so the other day I moved things around a bit in my studio. (This happens more often than not πŸ˜‚) Even just a tiny bit of change can bring a big difference and give a fresh feel to your daily norm. Controlling what we can and not losing hope πŸ™πŸ» I wish you a fabulous and lovely week ahead πŸ’™

More therapeutic watercoloring session - I find taking the time to color each image with watercolor really helps me to relax. I think it has to do with a slow moving, soft transition of the pigments and water.

This card was made using a brand new #altenewstatementflowers stamp set and #altenewspringgarden
