Hello there! Today is an exciting day because we get to play with some long-anticipating product since Jan of this year! And it happens to be one of my favorite coloring mediums, watercolors. Let’s dive in!
Altenew is showcasing its brand-new Watercolor 36 Pan Set along with some great related products like Watercolor Brushes, Watercolor Palettes, and Watercolor Pan Case. These not only work great with the Watercolor 36 Pan Set but also works wonderfully with your other coloring mediums or water-based dye inks/sprays!
I decided to create a simple card featuring a gradient watercolor backgroundΒ using a couple of shades and add a touch of intricate dies to add details to the card.
You all know (well, if you are a frequent visitor to my blog) that blue is my favorite color and I often go for those various blue shades for projects. Today’s card is no different! I chose a bit of light green/teal color along with a light blue shade for the background.
All you have to do is pre-wet the watercolor paper with clean water and add layers of colors on top while adding some dry time in between. Then you get to have a soft, nicely blended watercolor wash that is oh-so-easy to create!
For added details, I chose the Leaf Frame Cover Die from last month’s release and cut it with a Pale Gray cardstock. I added some very thin foam tapes underneath it for added dimensions, but if you like you can also cut a few layers of these and stack them on top of each other.
The sentiment is best kept simple when creating a card with other intricate designs, especially if you want to show off the background peeking through. So Fine Alpha die set was the perfect choice to create a short but sweet sentiment for the card.
Share with me below, what are some of your favoriteΒ ways to use watercolor mediums on your projects?

This card is very pretty, the watercolor Is the perfect backdrop for the intricate die cut frame. These colors are gorgeous and the case and brushes seem very practical. Thanks for all you share Nicole!
This is beautiful and a skill that I have not mastered yet. My most favorite way to play with watercolor is to wet paper and start dropping colors, then sit back and watch it do its thing! I also love coloring in some lovely floral images with watercolor. I took a class at a local craft store once and we just painted shapes (circles/triangles) with water and added color, then cut them out. They make very interesting card elements. Thank you for another jump start. I plan to paint all day tomorrow!
Love your CAS card project, very classy! Thanks for sharing your inspiration with us. This looks like an awesome watercolour palette to have!
Love your card. Can’t wait to get a set of these watercolors.

I love your pretty card. The blue makes a beautiful background for the die cut.
This is beautiful Nicole. I love doing washes for backgrounds as I am a w/c newbie however, I am now embossing floral’s and water colouring them in. Practicing as much as possible and watching lots of videos. I am determined to learn as I love it so much.
I love the watercolour set and I love how the sentiment is clear and perfect against the bright, subtle wash of colour in the background. Thanks for the inspiration! I would definitely try and recreate a similar card !
Awesome release! Beautiful project!
Love that blue colour mix you got, very fresh, delicate & pretty. That leaf frame is equally pretty, I like the match up. Thanks for your inspirational work.
As always, you’ve created a very pretty card. I love how you showcased the watercolors for creating beautiful, custom backgrounds for card designs.
The watercolours are so gorgeous! And I love the beautiful inspiration!
Simply fabulous! Like how soft and elegant the card looks
I like creating washes and either using them for backgrounds like you did here or die cutting from them, like for florals or even sentiments. I love how you added the cover die. It looks like its hovering from the looks of the shadows! When you layer them you lose that effect. You got a much better result than I normally do. Must be those skinny Darice foam strips! Trying those soon for sure! Great card!!!
Beautiful card! I love the subtle change of color in the background. The simple sentiment is perfect with the lovely leaf die.
blue is also my favorite color! awesome card!!
