Welcome to another episode of Fresh Take Friday! This week’s challenge I am participating is the Runway Inspired Challenge #56 and crafters are invited to create projects inspired by the following picture:
I love the bold bright colors of the outfit, and decided to incorporate the butterfly pattern into the card along with the colors. So, here is my take on the challenge:
I know this is not my usual CAS style. But it was so much fun to create it! Sometimes it feels really great to go out of your comfort zone and challenge your creativity. It also helps you break out different materials you have, experimenting with them to create something new and different. I actually really like how it turned out. It was super easy and fun to create. Don’t you just love the vibrant background colors? Watch the tutorial video below to see how this card comes together in action.
I have been collecting Distress Paints by Tim Holtz. His stuffs are just amazing – I have been getting into a lot of distress inks and marker techniques for blending and water-coloring, but this time I wanted try something more bold and rich colors. So I thought distress paints are perfect for this – they give opaque effect and show colors really well. They are able to blend with each other when wet, but once you dry them, its permanent. So, if you are looking to get the same effect of distress inks or markers, you want to make sure to work with the paints while they are wet. Do lots of practices and experiments before working on your actually project!
For the butterfly, I wanted to add a darker color to balance the whole card out. So I cut out a butterfly from Always Artichoke Cardstock from Stampin’ Up! using the Butterfly Die Set from Top Dog Dies. I just can’t get enough of this die – I have been reaching for it over and over again!! Details and little patterns on this design is just beautiful and awesome. I wanted the butterfly to be shiny so I added a clear embossing power after I cut out the piece. Just lovely.
I didn’t do too much for the sentiment. Just stamped a good sized “Thanks” from the Simply Everyday Tag Stamp Set by Avery Elle. I wanted to highlight the background and the butterfly so I left the sentiment plain, simple, and clean.
I hope you enjoyed the card! I sure did have lots of fun creating it. Hope you join the challenge with me this week – Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!!
