You’re My Sunshine (Easy Watercolor Background)

Hi guys! With all the hype that’s going on about watercoloring, I know some of you might feel overwhelmed and lost. Don’t know where to start? Don’t want to invest too much time? Want something simple? I hope today’s tip would encourage you to it a try. This is really a simple way and there is no need to invest in other watercolor products. It also requires you a very little time.

Check out the background of the card shown above. I created this light & dark shaded and blended look using the supplies I already have, and they are not “watercolor-specific” products. First, you start with a thick cardstock – I recommend using Marshmallow Cardstock from Bazzill, or if you have a watercolor paper that would work well. Cut it at 4 x 5 1/4.

Then you are going to take out couple shades of Distress ink pads. I picked out Dried Marigold and Wild Honey to create two tone shading for the background. As you can see, the middle part has darker shade (Wild Honey).

Choose your favorite background stamp set. For this card, I used Unity Stamp’s Diamonds & Plaid Stamp Set by Ann Butler. This stamp set is a borderless stamp so you can create a continues look by stamping the same image over and over. There are lots of images included in the set, so you get more images for the same price of one background stamp. You can get the stamp set HERE.

Now, you are going to ink up the stamp set and stamp it on the paper. If you are using a regular background stamp, ink up the stamp set by rotating the ink pads so the different shades would be reflected. You want to lay the stamp down upside down(stamp facing up), ink it up directly, and then put the paper on and rub it well to get the images. This method will give you the best background stamped result.

Next comes a fun part. Take a water mist and spray all over lightly. This way it would blend the colors without ruining the background image. And now you have the watercolor-look background without actually watercoloring it! If you want more of a softer look, spray a bit more water (not soaking wet!). Or, you use a paint brush to dab some water directly onto the image.

Practice, practice, and practice until you get the results you are happy with. This is a best method for achieving “the look.” I added a bold sentiment using the Heyday Sentiment Stamp Set from Hero Arts. I think card is a great way to brighten someone’s day. Don’t you agree?

Hope you enjoyed! Please let me know if you have any question trying this technique out. Thanks for stopping by!

Hello, Smiley Face

TDD - 20140415-1

Happy Tuesday! Today I am sharing a fun “hello” card using the Camera Finishers Die Set by Top Dog Dies. If you remember, I shared another project using the same die here. In this card, I used couple of different elements that are included in the set. I love the versatility of it, you can get a lot of use from just this one die set.

I wanted to create something bright and bold for today’s project. So I took out couple of bright cardstocks and one dark cardstock to highlight the face. For the background, I used tone-to-tone effect and added a background stamped image. I love using tone-to-tone background for cards, since it creates nice and subtle effect for projects without taking away too much attention for the focal point.

I really enjoy using the Camera Finishers Die set, the included elements are so cute!! The photo doesn’t do the justice, but if you look at the picture frame die cut piece closely, you will see that there is a soft shimmer. I used the Wink of Stella clear glitter pen to add a nice shimmer. It is not too overwhelming and gives just the right amount of glitters on the accent piece. I also added couple of sequins and tied a bow to give a nice effect on top of our smiley face. Doesn’t this card just make your smile? I hope this brings you a nice start of your day.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have a happy day!!

Missing Ewe

Hey guys! Stopping by quickly to share a project I am featuring over at the Really Reasonable Ribbon’s Blog today. Isn’t this cute? Maker sure to head over there to get more details on how I created this. Have a great Sunday!

**VIDEO** Sentiment Clusters Card w/ I Love You Because Stamp Set

Hi guys! Today I am over at the Inspired By Stamping to share a fun card. Don’t you sometimes wonder how you can get the most use out of the stamp set with full of greetings? I know I do – so today, I thought it would be fun to share a card focusing on sentiments. Lots of them!

I really like this I Love You Because Stamp Set, because it is filled with great sentiments you can use for different occasions. It is such a versatile stamp set that you will get a lot of bang for your buck! I took out different colors of ink pads, mostly focusing on some Spring colors, and decided to do some sentiment clustering.

I stamped the “I Love You Because…” sentiment in black since that would be a main focus in the cluster, and took out different greetings from the set and stamped them in different colors around the main sentiment. This is a great way to bring different colors into a project without using too many elements. Best way to keep the card clean and simple!

Before I finish the card, I decided to stamp a couple roses from the Vintage Roses Stamp Set in light gray to add a bit more dimensions to the card, and finished it with clear sequins to add some subtle sparkles.

Make sure to watch the video I created for IBS below! Thanks for stopping by – hope you have an awesome day!

Happy Tuesday, night owls! I know some of you might be already sleeping safe and sound, but my sleeping time is far away lol. I love working at night where I do not have any distractions and able to focus fully on my crafting. What time is your favorite crafting time, or when are most creative? Comment below and let me know!

Today I am sharing a cute card using the Hero Art’s new Lil Hoot Stamp Set. I fell in love right away when I saw this and there are lots of crafters out there that have been going crazy with this set. I finally cracked it out to use it on a card I wanted to create for my cousin. He and his wife are having a baby boy at the end of the month and I will be sending a package with some goodies for them, and thought this card would be perfect!

I am still getting used to coloring with Copics. I finally have some good color collections to blend different shades of colors and today I played with some Cool Gray tones. In the video you will see which ones I used to color the mama bear and the baby bear (that is what I am calling them). Had so much fun and I hope to do more coloring in the future videos. Maybe I need to look into the Copic certification classes – I know they were in my area last year but not sure when they will be back again!

Anyhow, please enjoy the video and I will be back tomorrow morning early to share a fun new card with you all. Have a great night!
